Do you remember the Great Depression? One day everything was going on all right. Everybody was pretty wealthy and had plenty to eat. The next day everybody was in poverty. What had happened? Had the fields disappeared, had the dairy vanished into thin air, had the fish of the sea ceased to exist, had human beings lost their energy, their skills and their brains? No. But on the morning after the Depression a man came to work building a house, and the foreman said to him “Sorry chum you can’t work today,. there ain’t no inches.” He said “What do you mean there ain’t no inches?” “Yeah” he said, “Yeah, we got lumber, we got metal, we even got tape measures.” The foreman said “The trouble with you is you don’t understand business. There are no inches. We have been using too many of them and not enough to go around.” Because what happened in the Great Depression was that money , there was a slump in money. And human beings are so unbelievably stupid, that they confused money with wealth. And they don’t realize that money is a measure of wealth, in exactly the same way that meters are a measure of length. They think it is something that is valuable in and of itself.

I eagerly await the day I no longer have to write papers to prove what I know.

People will see in my work that I just… know.

Ask The World #1

theinvisiblefist:

I first became interested in economics around Christmas 2006. I had read most of Richard Dawkins’s books and developed a strong understanding of biological evolution. At dinner, I told my cousin and uncle that “I think evolution is necessary in order to understand how the world works.”

My cousin said, “Really? That’s how I feel about economics.” and my uncle said, “I think it’s ridiculous that economics isn’t a requirement in all high schools.”

I had never taken a single economics class, and this spurred me to pick up a book on the subject and become an expert. I am currently nowhere near an expert, but understand the subject much better than before.

My question for you — please reblog your answer — is as follows:

Did you study economics in school? If so, what was the nature of the class?

I believe it was required to take an economics course in my high school. The class was primarily there to teach us how to budget, learn about supply and demand, and somewhat about how the world handles money. Sadly, I don’t remember much.

Hold Down the C Key

I bought an new iMac last Sunday, because I was pretty sure my 12 inch PowerBook was going to fuzz out on me soon.

I came home to visit this weekend, and brought my PowerBook with me to do homework. As I booted it up this morning, it decided to have some mean old fun with me. It wouldn’t let me log in, and then once it let me (finally), it would immediately log me back out.

I gave up and threw in the original OSX 10.3 Panther disc in and installed it. That’s what I’m on currently. For some reason, none of my programs work except Firefox, which is what I’m on now.

I’m clearing the entire thing off, and starting from scratch in about 5 minutes.

What is it that attracts people to Christ? The fact that it was such a tragedy, is what. Who does Christ become when he lives inside a certain person? Many people say that Christ lives inside them: Well, what does that mean? I’ve talked to many people whom Christ lives inside; I haven’t met one who would want to trade places with Christ. Not one of his people put himself on the line when it came down to the final hour. What would Christ be in this day and age if he came back? What would he be? What would he be to fulfill his function and purpose? He would have to be a leader, I suppose.

This is me NOT freaking out:

Met with my film advisor/professor today. This is what I will be doing the next year and a half:

  • Finish this semester.
  • Live in Allendale this summer with Bill, Justin, and Jon.
  • Continue working and maybe take a class in Spring semester (1st half of summer).
  • Work on the GVSU Summer film in the Summer Semester (2nd half of summer).
  • Take many classes, finish all classes I need to next school year.
  • Editing Internship, hopefully Chicago, summer 2009.
  • Find job?
  • Graduate.

This is very rough. And it’s a plan. It will very much likely change.

Hey you! Have a good day today.
